I Feel it a pleasure to express my views about the meaning and aims of education. Most schools today conceive education as a way to achieve skills and knowledge to succeed in the society. However this is a narrow aim. The main aim of education should be to understand the problems that surround us. Problems in the society such as violence division and social in equality and problems within the individual such as fear and loneliness.

Education in the words of well known philosopher, Krishna murti should be concerned with understanding of the fabric of society and of the self, along with a relationship between them. There was a time when education was a process that prepared young people for life. Today it has become more of a means to earn livelihood with no real values attached to it. The main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth. So we have to think about it seriously.

Moreover, character building should be the fore-most aim of our system of education. This takes place at home as well as in a school, So, in my opinion both the teacher and the parent have important roles. It's a parent who plays a very important role in a child's growth upto an age of 12 or 13. After that it is the teacher who moulds the child's growth. Character building happens at a very early age before a child goes to school. So it's their mother and father who are the first leading hero and heroine. Parents may have their own ambitions for their children to become doctors and engineers, businessmen and entrepreneurs. It is an endless list. But we should be able to raise children who are not mereby obsessed about success but are also able to become good citizens.

The need of the hour is to help our children become independent thinkers and develop integrated personalities. Focus of our education system, therefore must shift from class room teaching to Class room 'LEARNING'. In my opinion teaching is an intellectual profession rather than a manual or a technical one. Albert Einstein once commented "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions". We shall have to think positively in the light of all these perspectives.
